Share Study finds link between brain damage and religious fundamentalism on LinkedIn
Scientists found that damage in a certain part of the brain is linked to an increase in religious fundamentalism. In particular, lesions in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex reduced cognitive flexibility – the ability to challenge our beliefs based on new evidence.

The researchers, led by Jordan Grafman of Northwestern University, utilized data gathered from Vietnam War veterans as part of the Vietnam Head Injury Study. They compared levels of religious fundamentalism between 119 vets who had lesions and 30 veterans who didn’t.

The scientists specify that they are not stating religious people overall are mentally inflexible or that belief is caused by brain damage. There are many cognitive processes involved in forming beliefs. But in some people, the system of “belief revision” may become suppressed due to brain damage.

    To help regulate and reduce hate in the world, do you feel that a lawful mandatory test for anyone who participates in religious activities for more than 5 years. Religious believers of every faith should be scanned every 5 years. Could this catch mental instability before it becomes hard fundamentalism.

-Ron Thompson, I feel testing could lead to racist or violent movements against religion. Believers should be free to believe but also stay out of others’ lives. If they can’t stop spreading paganistic lies about us, maybe experiencing the same in their own lives would help them understand what it’s like for us to have them constantly involved in ours. If testing were ever proven to save lives, the world might insist all religious people be tested annually. It would be right to do so if it could be proven that testing for fundamentalism saves lives. I think science is close to proving this, and the world is changing for believers—something my brother Yeshua would love to see.

If a movement were to happen, it should be against jealousy and false gods. It should challenge every false duality created by misguided minds. I believe clarity can be reached without putting people to the test.

He’s everywhere, which is why I say, on your journey, be careful about what you choose to practice and how you practice it. Use yoga to stretch, but don’t get caught up in yoga philosophies, channeling, or chanting tied to religious yoga. If you follow religion and belief, that’s where Jealousy comes in, teaching those beliefs too. Trust yourself, go inward, not outward. Let go of beliefs—you don’t need them. You don’t need to chant to channel; that’s just a belief from religion.
